It feels crazy to say that we have been married for one whole year already! Marriage is everything I imagined. I couldn’t be more grateful for the highs and the lows from the past year. This past year we’ve been through more crap than before, and it just so happened to be our first year of marriage. Let me tell you it’s been tough, just when we thought things couldn’t get any worse, guess what? Something worse would always happen. But we are truly grateful for everything we have been through this year and we are happier than ever. We have truly grown so much together through our struggles. We’ve learnt so many lessons this past year but these are my top 5.
Don’t sweat the small stuff
Okay honestly I’m still trying to work on this one. Especially when my husband loves to leave his empty bags of chips in the cupboard (eye roll). It’s important to pick your fights, I keep a clean house and I used to get frustrated a lot when Morgan wouldn’t clean up after himself. Living with your spouse is all about compromise, you need to meet halfway. Morgan tries not to leave his clean clothes on the closet floor and I try not to freak out if he does.
Lazy nights watching movies and drinking wine are the best
Be grateful for what you have in this moment
This is the biggest lesson I learnt this year. There have been multiple occasions this year when our lives have changed in a second. It’s important to be grateful for what you have right now, you never know when it will get taken away from you. In tough times it can be difficult to find things to be grateful for. Morgan is amazing at encouraging me to see the positive and not to dwell on the things I can’t change.
Don’t give up when it gets tough
Working through your problems can be tougher than the actual problem. This year has taught us to communicate more effectively and to never give up on each other. Being a supportive partner and having a supportive partner makes everything feel a littler easier.
It’s still the best feeling in the world being married to your best friend
Nothing will beat waking up next to your best friend everyday and getting to call them your husband.
